He blinked.
“How long have I been asleep?” he asked, his voice croaking and previously unused.
“Exactly one century” answered a voice with practiced calm.
He took a moment to process the news.
“Then, my friends… my family… they’re all…”
He was met with a solemn nod.
Tears broke his eyes.

Many thanks to Sacha for running this challenging over on her weekly Writespiration. The prompt this time was 100 to celebrate 100 Writespirations; a pretty awesome achievement! You’ll also find my entry for last week on there, or you can find it at The Lost Things: Writespiration #3, along with many other wonderful 52-Word-Works!
Ohhh this is awesome – this has mega story potential – what happens next? I can’t imagine it happening to me, I’d be devastated but still… what a hook.

It’s one of the reasons I love these shorter prompts… Can try and write something just tantalizing enough to make people want more. Great practice for working out certain story ideas!

My first thought Shaun, was I wonder who would be top of the Premiership (football). It’s funny how our minds work differently. Nice post.

In reality my mind would probably go towards: “What fancy new technology exists?” haha.

I had a few ideas, but nothing really resonated in 52 words… Will check your entry out!

Funny you should have had problems too. I wonder why that is? Too restricted an image maybe?

Imagine that…being asleep for all that time and missing the lives of your entire family and everyone you know.
